A visit with student leaders, shadowing experiences with staff members in Student Life, meeting President Gee and cheering on the Buckeyes as they won in overtime against the University of Iowa, are just the highlights of a three-week long visit to Ohio State for 13 members of a delegation from Wuhan University in China. The delegation also will take part in Ohio State’s Thanksgiving Dinner on campus to experience first-hand this American holiday tradition.

For the second time this year a delegation from Wuhan University visited Ohio State to learn more about how Ohio State works with students outside of the classroom through the Office of Student Life. The delegation has had an opportunity to tour the campus, meet one-on-one with experts in the field who manage Ohio State’s residence and dining halls, recreational facilities, and student union operations, among many other areas. They also have engaged in shadowing experiences to learn the ins and outs of how Ohio State best meets the needs of its students.

Also during the visit, Ohio State signed a Memorandum of Agreement with Wuhan that solidifies the two universities’ commitment to work on integrated undergraduate educational opportunities.

The Institute for Chinese Studies will continue its “China in Global Context” lecture series with Christopher Agnew, assistant professor of history at the University of Dayton, who will present on “The Sage’s Kin: Social Power and the Making of the Descendants of Confucius.” Agnew's lecture will detail the way in which the Kongs of Qufu, the recognized descendants of Confucius, used ritual practice and collective memory to reinforce a lineage identity and social hierarchy centered on the “Duke for Fulfilling the Sage.” The lecture will be held on Friday, November 20, at 2:30 p.m. in 062 Hagerty Hall.

The Slavic Department’s Literature and Culture Forum features Jennifer Suchland discussing "The Making of 'Natasha' and the International Politics of Sex Trafficking" on Friday (11/20) at 3 p.m. in Hagerty Hall 406. Suchland's research tackles the political and cultural production of 'Natasha' as a trope to represent trafficked women from the post-socialist region.

The Center for Latin American Studies presents A Via Láctea (The Milky Way) on Wednesday (12/2) at 7:30 p.m. in 180 Hagerty Hall. Heitor, a literature professor, meets and falls in love with Júlia, a young actress. During the course of the movie we see scenes from their relationship where they both love and fight each other. Through the film Heitor is driving around the busy streets of São Paulo trying to reach and reconcile once more with Júlia. This provides an opportunity for the director to interject characters from São Paulo's street environment into the picture, from child beggars to crazy men with guns. The chaotic nature of urban life is contrasted with serene shots of Brazilian country side to further reinforce the impact of environment on personal relationships. The first encounter between Heitor & Júlia takes place at a show by an experimental theatre company. The Milky Way can also be called an experimental and non-conventional movie for those looking for something out of the mainstream. The free film is in Portuguese with English subtitles. The Center for Latin American Studies presents Não por acaso (Not by Chance) on Wednesday (11/18) at 7:30 p.m. in 180 Hagerty Hall. Two control-obsessed characters, Ênio, a traffic control worker, and Pedro, a pool player, find fulfillment in a mathematical mindset that leads them toward the feeling of control they long for. But all is thrown to the winds when both Ênio's ex-wife and Pedro's wife die in a car accident. Pedro meets Lúcia and tries to re-live the same exact moments he once lived with his wife; Ênio is forced to confront his loss through the appearance of his unknown daughter. Eventually however, the two men must decide between their obsessions and the new opportunities life has given them. The free film is in Portuguese with English subtitles. The week of November 16-20 marks the tenth annual celebration of International Education Week. A joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education, International Education Week is an opportunity to promote a broader understanding of world cultures. Ohio State joins thousands of other institutions worldwide participating in events that bring an international perspective to college campuses.

Vesta Sarkhosh Curtis presents "Coins, Kings and Gods in Ancient Iran" on Thursday (11/12) in 306 Hagerty Hall at 3:30 p.m. Parthian and Sasanian coins of 3rd century BC through 7th century AD provide important information about the relationship between kingship and religion. As curator of Iranian and Islamic Coins for the British Museum, Curtis has researched how the Parthian and Sasanian kings used religious symbolism to show that they enjoyed divine protection and were chosen by divine beings to rule over their empire. This lecture studies the changing nature of Parthian and Sasanian iconography by using numismatic evidence as well as sculptures and reliefs.

The Center for Latin American Studies presents Cheiro do Ralo (Drained) at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday (11/4) in 180 Hagerty Hall. Lourenç, the owner of a secondhand shop, finds pleasure in taking unfair advantage of his customers. This behavior amuses him, until he finds it necessary to relate to his customers using a currency that is strange to him – namely affection – from the very same characters he imagined were under his control.
